Hello and Welcome to the Luton
Safeguarding Children Board

We hope you will find the site a useful resource both in understanding the purpose of the Luton Safeguarding Children Board, its structure and membership, as well as a user friendly tool to safeguard children and young people.

A key objective for the LSCB is to promote the message that ‘Safeguarding Children is everybody’s responsibility’ and therefore this site is aimed, not only at Professionals but the wider public including parents/carers and young people themselves.

A new approach to Multi Agency - Learning  and Development is taking place under the Luton Safeguarding Children Board. The Board is looking at how a coherent workforce development programme with core competencies can be built in parallel with single agency training strategies and supportive of professional collegiate CPDs.  The Board would welcome feedback on how you would like to see the new model being shaped. – do you have a view on keeping the programme Luton focused, a Pan Beds approach or a mixture of the two. Call or Email our Business Unit and register your views.

A very positive meeting has taken place between all the agencies and Airlines working out of/and with  Luton Airport to make our borders as safe as they can be for safeguarding the welfare of children and young people vulnerable to Child Sexual Exploitation, human slavery, trafficking and grooming and Influence from Extremists. Work is taking place on the Memorandum of Good practice to safeguard our Borders and any thoughts you have on what should be happening would be welcome.

The multi agency partnership under the LSCB has been learning some very difficult lessons from the current Serious Case Reviews. The level of neglect and poverty in parts of Luton are placing massive strain on families and their ability to cope as parents. These challenges have also had an impact on practice and services at a time when resources are stretched across the partnership resulting in the risk to a small number of the most vulnerable children not being recognised. Learning and improvement events will be taking place to get the learning out to safeguarding practitioners and professionals and will be advertised on the website.
